The 10 best barbecue spots in the park in Berlin
For many Berliners, sunny weather also means barbecue weather, and anyone without a garden or balcony meets up for a barbecue in the park. We tested these ten official barbecue spots for cleanliness, lawn quality and recreational offerings. A little gem for barbecue fans is Monbijoupark in Mitte, lovingly planted with tulips and surrounded by sports facilities. Goerlitzer Park in Kreuzberg scores with a children's farm and blacklight mini golf, while things get central, popular and usually crowded at Mauerpark on Prenzlauer Berg. Between Club der Visionaere and Badeschiff, the Schlesische Busch in Treptow invites you to grill before a night of partying, and the Fennpfuhlpark in Lichtenberg attracts with the greenest grass in the city. Where will you grill your next sausage? Please pay attention to the signs on site, as the district office can issue a barbecue ban at short notice.

For this list, I checked out Berlin's official barbecue spots, from Monbijoupark in Mitte to the Mauerpark at Prenzlauer Berg and the Fennpfuhlpark in Lichtenberg. I paid attention to cleanliness, the condition of the lawns, the surrounding recreational offerings and, not least, the toilets. Here are my recommendations for a successful barbecue.

Currently, BBQs are not allowed at Tempelhofer Feld. It's worth a visit anyway - a few food stands are waiting for you. Tempelhofer Feld or "on Tempelhof" for short like many Berliners say, normally has the luxury of having three designated BBQ area. They are located near the entrances on Oderstraße, Columbiadamm and Tempelhofer Damm.

A „little gem“ for all BBQ fans is Mitte's Monbijoupark. It's an extremely well taken-care-of park planted with tulips and several areas for playing sports, for example a Basketball court or tables for playing ping pong. Do you need anything more to not be bored during your BBQ?

Guys with dreadlocks who rather grill tofu than a real sausage, people playing the drums, large Turkish families and universtiy students - the BBQ crowd at Görlitzer Park is more than only a little diverse.

Normally, BBQs are allowed on Kleiner Bunkerberg in Volkspark Friedrichshain. Currently though it is mandatory to book your BBQ slot online via http://neuer-hain.de.

Centrally located, popular but fairly grubby - that's Mauerpark. It's open season for BBQs there all over, except for a little grove of birches and next to the playground.

Located between Club der Visionäre, Badeschiff and Arena Treptow, you will find the BBQ area Schlesischer Busch - ideal location for a pre-party weekend BBQ.

A bit off the beaten track but with the greenest grass in all of Berlin - that's the BBQ area of Berlin-Lichtenberg.

Just like Tempelhofer Feld, the Landschaftspark Johannistal started its existence as an airfield. It was here that motorised aviation in Germany made its first leaps in 1909.
