Park BBQs

The barbecue area at Columbiadamm begins approximately 300 meters behind the park entrance on the north side of Tempelhofer Feld. You barbecue with your own equipment, at least 25 centimeters above the ground; gas grills are prohibited throughout the entire field. Those who want to barbecue in a park in Berlin without prior booking will find by far the largest area in the city here.

Monbijoupark is the last public barbecue area in the Mitte district: a small, signposted lawn near Oranienburger Straße, opposite Museum Island and within sight of the Bode Museum and New Synagogue. No registration or fees are required; bring your own grill. The central location for barbecuing in the park comes with the need for an early arrival.

Because Lichtenberg has banned grilling in all green areas, the bookable BBQ area of the Hafenküche in the Citymarina at Rummelsburger Bucht remains the only option for the district. The rental includes a sunsail, a table for twelve people, a BBQ fireplace with charcoal and electricity, and a maximum of 17 guests are allowed. Grilling in the park becomes grilling directly by the water here.

Reinickendorf does not have a freely accessible barbecue area, but it does have three bookable barbecue spots with permanently installed electric grills at the Lübars Family Farm. Each spot includes a covered seating area, drinking water, and a lantern, rented hourly for a fee and deposit. Grilling in the park here means: reserving instead of fighting for the last spot.

Görlitzer Park is the only park in Berlin with two designated barbecue areas: one opposite the artificial turf sports field, the second opposite the toboggan hill. Both are free of charge and can be used without prior registration, including gas barbecues. However, on May 1st, the district enforces a barbecue ban for the entire park every year, which should be kept in mind.

On the meadow in Neuer Hain, there are 46 numbered stone slabs, increased from 30 in 2024, each for a maximum of ten people. Bookings are made online in advance, and on-site, the kiosk issues a grilling token against a deposit. This makes Volkspark Friedrichshain the only grilling area in Berlin where you can secure a fixed spot instead of searching for one.

In Mauerpark, orange ash containers at the corners mark the extent of the permitted barbecue area. It is located near the Bernauer Straße entrance, costs nothing, and requires no reservation. Only stand-up barbecues with charcoal are allowed, and because the entire park is car-free, everything for grilling must be carried in on foot.

The easternmost of the three barbecue areas on Tempelhofer Feld is located in Neukölln, near the Oderstraße entrance, approximately two kilometers from the area at Tempelhofer Damm. Your own grill with a minimum foot height of 25 centimeters is mandatory; gas grills are forbidden on the entire field. For barbecuing in the park, this is the shortest route from the Schillerkiez.

Since the barbecue area in Preußenpark was closed in 2024, Rudolf-Mosse-Platz in Schmargendorf is the only public barbecue area in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. The small green space is about a ten-minute walk from Heidelberger Platz and can be used free of charge all year round. In addition to the barbecue area, there is a sunbathing lawn, a ping-pong table, and a mini-soccer field.

Blücherplatz is the third designated barbecue area in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg: a meadow between Waterloo-Ufer and Zossener Straße, next to the America Memorial Library and a few steps from Hallesches Tor. Free, no registration required, gas grills allowed. If you're looking for a free spot to barbecue in the park, this is your best bet.
