Reinickendorf does not have a freely accessible public barbecue area, but it does offer something no other district has: three bookable barbecue spots with permanently installed electric grills. They are located on the grounds of the Lübars Family Farm, the “Alte Fasanerie”, which is operated by the Evangelische Elisabethstift and was set up in cooperation with the Department for Roads and Green Spaces. Electric instead of charcoal means: no sparks, no disputes over lighting, and no closures during dry periods. Each spot includes a covered seating area, a drinking water connection, a lantern, and an ecological toilet on the premises.

Booking, Prices, and the Farm Around the Barbecue Area

The spots are rented out, not simply occupied: Reservations are made by phone or email via the Youth Farm office, rented by the hour, and a deposit is required in addition to the usage fee. Rentals are exclusively to adults. This sounds like bureaucracy, but it spares you exactly what is annoying about Berlin’s free barbecue areas: the search for a spot on a Saturday afternoon. The farm itself is a Märkisch-style homestead with a mixed animal population, a pond, a show garden with flowers and herbs, and plenty of shade. Surrounding it are the Lübars fields and Lübars Leisure Park, so a barbecue afternoon can be easily combined with a long walk.
