Since the barbecue area in Preußenpark was closed in 2024, Rudolf-Mosse-Platz in Schmargendorf is the only public barbecue area in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Rudolf-Mosse-Platz is the only public barbecue area left in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. In 2022, there were still three in the district: the area at Goslarer Ufer disappeared during the renovation of the green space on Mierendorff Island, and the one in Preußenpark on Württembergische Straße was closed in 2024. What remains is the street green space in Schmargendorf at the corner of Mecklenburgische Straße, about a ten-minute walk from Heidelberger Platz. It can be used without registration and without a fee, and, unlike in Volkspark Friedrichshain, all year round.
What Rudolf-Mosse-Platz offers for barbecuing in the park
There are no permanent barbecue facilities, so you must bring your own grill. Ground grills are not allowed, nor are disposable grills without feet, and spirits and petrol are forbidden as lighters. The area is manageable, making it more suitable for small gatherings than for large groups. However, there’s more going on around it than the address suggests: the facility includes a sunbathing lawn, a ping-pong table, and a playground and mini-soccer field with two goals and two basketball hoops. Families can spread out their blankets while the children are busy nearby. Those who shy away from the crowds at Tempelhofer Feld or Mauerpark will find a significantly quieter option here.
