Berlin Wall Memorial

Berlin Wall Memorial

Bernauer Straße was the border between the districts of Wedding (West) and Mitte (East).

Today you can find there the official Berlin Wall Memorial which was inaugurated on 13 August 1998.

Part of the Wall Memorial is a documentation centre, the Chapel of Reconciliation and - still fairly new - since December 2009 a visitor centre on Bernauer Straße. The new outside area in the former border strip shows on the example of Bernauer Straße how the border fortifications and the Wall worked.
