Anyone looking for a beer garden in Berlin that truly sets standards will sooner or later end up on the Spree embankment in Treptower Park. The Zenner Beer and Wine Garden offers around 1,500 seats in its heritage-protected outdoor area, partly under old lime trees, partly in the sun. From the terrace, the view sweeps directly over the Spree and the Island of Youth. The principle is classic self-service. At the counter, you can tap fresh Berliner Bürgerbräu Pils from the copper tank, Tegernseer Hell from the wooden barrel, Schneider Weiße, and BRLO-IPA. Those who prefer wine will find the separate wine garden next door, where changing tapas and homemade pizza are served. The beer garden menu focuses on Berlin classics like Currywurst and Bouletten, complemented by vegetarian and vegan options. There is also an organic ice cream parlor in the Turmhaus arcades. In summer, bands play on the open-air stage on Sundays.

Since 1822: History You Can Taste

The Zenner guesthouse was opened in 1822 as a magistrate’s coffee house based on plans by Carl Ferdinand Langhans. This makes it one of the city’s oldest excursion venues. After a long break and extensive, monument-appropriate renovation, the Zenner Beer and Wine Garden reopened in June 2021 in new splendor. The area is worth a longer afternoon anyway: the Island of Youth is directly opposite and easily reachable on foot, and the Spreepark in the neighboring Plänterwald is also easily accessible from here.
