The Zollpackhof beer garden in Berlin's government district, directly on the Spree, serves Augustiner from wooden barrels with a view of the Federal Chancellery. Bavarian classics, centuries-old chestnut trees, and one of the city's longest gastronomic histories.
Beer Garden in Berlin with Chancellery View: This is Zollpackhof
Located between the Federal Chancellery and the main train station, the complex with a restaurant, two terraces, and a beer garden invites visitors during the summer months. As an event location, the Zollpackhof can accommodate up to 2,000 people, making it one of the largest beer gardens in Berlin. Shade is provided by a more than 150-year-old horse chestnut tree and many other old trees.
The beer garden operates on a self-service basis. While excursion boats pass by on the Spree, guests refresh themselves after work or on weekends with Augustiner on tap and grilled specialties like pork knuckle, half chicken, meatloaf, or vegan patties. Every evening at 18:00, a fresh wooden barrel is tapped, while guests help themselves at the hearty buffet. Those who prefer table service can switch to the adjacent restaurant, where German-Austrian cuisine with Mediterranean influences and a selection of wines are served.
History and Neighborhood: Tradition Since the Year 1700
The Zollpackhof already became Berlin’s first excursion restaurant around 1700. In 2005, Berlin restaurateur Benjamin Groenewold took over the operation and brought a piece of tradition back to the capital. After a long renovation phase between 2014 and 2016, the historic complex, in cooperation with the Augustiner Brewery from Munich, shines in new splendor. Anyone looking for a beer garden in Berlin with history will almost inevitably end up here.
The surroundings are also worth seeing. In the immediate vicinity are some of Berlin’s most exciting sights, including the Reichstag building, the Victory Column, Tiergarten, and Bellevue Palace. The Käfer Dachgarten Restaurant on the Reichstag is also just a few minutes away and attracts a completely different audience. Those who want to spend the summer by the water without traveling far will find the Zollpackhof Beer Garden a reliable address with true Berlin significance.
