Tempelhofer Feld in Tempelhof is Berlin's legendary open space, where former runways have become a skating track. On a 4.5 km circular route between wide skies and the old airport building, inline skaters roll with a good tailwind through one of Europe's largest city parks.

Skating on the Tempelhof Airport Skating Track

Anyone who has ever rolled on inline skates over a former runway knows: This is no ordinary excursion. The skating track at Tempelhofer Feld offers a 4.5 km circular route that leads over the runways of the former airport. It’s not always straight ahead. Curves and a good tailwind ensure the right kind of fun. Because the field is so open and flat, the wind almost reliably builds up on Tempelhofer Feld. These are the best conditions for training. At the same time, the track is shared with cyclists and joggers, so keep your eyes open and stay alert.

For a deeper dive into skating, there’s an offer right on site. From the beginning of May, SCC Berlin offers courses for beginners and advanced skaters on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30, where safe inline skating on Tempelhofer Feld is practiced, even without club membership. Additionally, through the “Sport im Park” program, there’s an opportunity to learn inline skating every Wednesday from May to October for free with trained coaches from Spreewölfe Berlin e.V.

More than just laps: Skatepark and Open Space

Besides the circular route, the Vogelfreiheit Skatepark awaits on the premises. There you’ll find curbs, ledges, banks, and manual pads in every variation, and in some places, you literally skate on granite blocks from the old Berlin City Palace. The goal was deliberately not a perfect skatepark, but an aesthetic place with quality of stay and room for creativity. You can feel that. On sunny days, Tempelhofer Feld thus provides several reasons to lace up your skates. Wide sky, clear path, no entry fee: Tempelhofer Feld is the largest inner-city park in Europe, and you feel that with every lap.
