Engelbecken

Since 1999, Engelbecken has been located in the yellow corner building on Witzlebenstraße by Lietzensee and was Berlin's first restaurant exclusively serving organic meat. During goose season, the free-range goose, stuffed with apples and onions, is crispy baked and served in pieces on a platter at the table. The special feature: only whole or half geese are available, ordered three days in advance.
Roast Goose at Engelbecken: Free-range goose, crispy baked and served in pieces
The goose season here begins on November 11th. A free-range goose, stuffed with apples and onions and gently cooked, is served. It then comes out of the oven crispy baked, is carved into pieces, and brought to the table on a platter. The kitchen serves bread and potato dumplings, red cabbage, kale, and plenty of sauce alongside. Engelbecken exclusively serves whole or half geese and therefore only accepts orders for two people or more. Spontaneous goose dinner is not possible here: the goose must be ordered at least three days in advance, by phone, email, or through the restaurant’s reservation system. This makes the roast goose less of a casual restaurant visit and more of an arranged feast day for which the kitchen prepares a whole animal. By prior order, the roast is also available for home, as is a whole duck. Both come prepared from the kitchen and are finished baking in your own oven, while the side dishes only need to be heated.
Engelbecken by Lietzensee: Berlin’s First Restaurant with Pure Organic Cuisine
The name sounds like Kreuzberg, and rightly so. Founded in 1995 in Berlin-Kreuzberg, at the corner of Reichenberger Straße on Erkelenzdamm, the restaurant owes its name to the nearby basin, named after Archangel Michael, in the historic Luisenstädter Kanal, which connected the Landwehrkanal with the Spree. During its four years in Kreuzberg, Engelbecken had made a name for itself beyond the district boundaries and moved to larger premises at Witzlebenstraße 31 in October 1999 due to high demand. Since then, the restaurant has been located in the distinctive yellow corner building on Witzlebenstraße, shaping the neighborhood around Lietzensee both visually and culinarily. What set the establishment apart from the beginning: It was the first restaurant in Berlin to exclusively feature organic meat on its menu. Nothing has changed in this regard. Homemade, seasonal cuisine with Bavarian and Alpine tendencies is served, and all meat comes from organically certified production.
