At Martinmas, i.e. on 11.11.2018, the goose season starts in the French restaurant Ganymed with a Martinmas-menu. Then the wonderful scent of the oven-fresh geese will be on its way through the brasserie. The 3-course menu begins with a nashi pear foam soup with cinnamon pumpernickel croutons, followed by crottin de chèvre with calvados chutney, frisee salad and beetroot. The main course is a braised goose leg with vanilla, aniseed and cinnamon on Calvados red cabbage. The sweet finish is apple tart tatin with cinnamon raisin parfait with lukewarm vanilla foam.
Martinmas traditionally marks the start of the goose season, which lasts at the Ganymed restaurant until 26 December. During this time you can taste the French goose leg or a whole goose for four people in the French restaurant. The whole goose is carved directly at the table, but this requires a reservation three days in advance.
The centrally located Ganymed restaurant on Schiffbauerdamm in Berlin-Mitte stands for good French brasserie cuisine with a view of the River Spree. The traditional restaurant is located in a beautiful Wilhelminian style building and maintains an ambience with French flair. The restaurant has been in existence since 1931, it was called Ganymed, after the mouth of the Greek gods. Famous theatre people like Bert Brecht and Helene Weigel have already eaten here and gourmets can still indulge in culinary delights with a mix of French country and gourmet cuisine.
