Farm

18 Locations

A working farm might sound unlikely in a capital city, but Berlin and its green edges hold plenty. A farm here can mean a children's petting yard, a produce shop or a rural day out just beyond the ring. This tag collects Berlin locations where town meets country.

City farms in Neukoelln, Kreuzberg and the outer districts let children meet goats, pigs and chickens for free, doubling as calm green spaces. Further out, farms in Brandenburg sell eggs, vegetables and meat straight from the gate, and some open for seasonal picking or cafe visits. Weekend markets bring the same produce into the centre.

Browse the venues below to find a farm in and around Berlin, from petting yards to proper country estates.

In Dahlem, where the southwest of Berlin almost feels like a village, Domäne Dahlem has been practicing real agriculture and animal husbandry for centuries, now as a recognized Bioland organic farm with an open-air museum. Here, children experience agriculture up close in a way hardly anyone would expect in a city of millions. The farm is even easily accessible by subway.

Only about 40 minutes southwest of Berlin, near Beelitz, lies a farm that guides families through all four seasons: fresh Beelitz asparagus in spring, pick-your-own in summer, Brandenburg's largest pumpkin exhibition in autumn, and winter magic with a toboggan run. The Klaistow Asparagus and Adventure Farm turns a simple trip to Brandenburg into a full day's program.

Located in the historic village center of Alt-Marzahn, right next to the post mill, you'll find Berlin's most authentic children's farm. Tierhof Marzahn is a over 300-year-old, listed three-sided farm where agriculture is still practiced as it was at the beginning of the 20th century.

In Charlottenburg's Klausenerplatz quarter, where one would typically expect Wilhelminian-era buildings and coffee houses, a real children's farm is hidden on Danckelmannstraße. The Charlottenburg Goat Farm is the result of civic engagement: residents saved a derelict plot from new development and transformed it into a green community oasis with animals, learning gardens, and a playground.
