Britzer Garten

Spanning 90 hectares in southern Neukölln, Britzer Garten offers everything you'd leave Berlin for on a beautiful day, without actually leaving the city: blooming theme gardens, an artificially created lake, expansive sunbathing lawns, and a lively event program that carries through the entire summer.

Britzer Garten: More Than Just Meadow and Path

Britzer Garten is a 90-hectare landscape park in Berlin-Neukölln, created for the 1985 Federal Garden Show. Today, it is considered Berlin’s most beautiful recreational park. Unlike most public parks in the capital, which are freely accessible, an entrance fee is charged for visiting Britzer Garten – and it’s money well spent. The difference from a normal city park becomes clear at the latest on the first stroll.

The modern landscape park with lakes, streams and springs, meadows, groves and colorful flowerbeds boasts numerous special gardens, including a rose garden, a witch’s garden, the Karl Foerster Garden, and a rhododendron grove. Highlights also include Berlin’s largest rose garden, the historic Britzer Mill, and its own park railway for round trips. In the park center, a 10-hectare lake was artificially created, and the excavated soil was used to diversely shape the adjacent park area – three hills emerged around the lake, towering up to 63 meters above sea level. From them, charming sightlines and impressive panoramic views of the surrounding city landscape are offered.

Outdoor Activities and Events

In beautiful weather, the park unfolds its full program. A special exhibition presents 5,500 dahlias in 300 varieties, and in the so-called “Dahlia Meadows,” dahlias merge with summer flowers, grasses, herbs, and vegetable plants to create natural mixed plantings, while the “Dahlia Baskets” present the blooms in large groups, framed by colorful sweet potato leaves. In addition, the park also attracts with events: From June to September, every first Thursday of the month features live music in Berlin’s most beautiful setting – the so-called Silent Sessions by the lake. For the 40th anniversary of Britzer Garten, the Klassik Open Air 2025 offers a special blend of styles: under the motto “Symphony & Sounds – Classical, Rock and Pop,” a repertoire of classical music, ballads, and rocking sounds resonates through the park. Those who come with children will also find something: From August 16, 2025, the Clay Village reopens its gates for little budding builders – until the end of August, children aged 3 to 13 can daily from 10:00 to 15:30 create their own structures or imaginative figures from clay.
