Nachbarschaftsgarten Moritzplatz

On the former Prinzessinnengarten site at Moritzplatz in Kreuzberg, a non-commercial, self-organized neighborhood and inclusion garden has been created. Those who garden here do so according to the principles of permaculture - collaboratively, democratically, and open to all.
From wasteland to community garden at Moritzplatz
In Kreuzberg, at Moritzplatz, a huge area lay fallow for over 60 years – a forgotten place that housed only trash and debris. In 2009, the Prinzessinnengarten was founded as a mobile urban gardening project on this approximately 6,000 square meter site. Since then, the area has undergone a remarkable transformation. Today, an inclusive community garden is operated on the former Prinzessinnengarten site, where Berliners and visitors can come together.
The neighborhood garden at Moritzplatz is a place for encounters and an inclusion garden – open to all, following the principle of “Contributing instead of Exchanging”. So, if you don’t have your own garden but still want to get your hands dirty, this is the perfect place. The neighborhood garden operates according to the ethics and principles of permaculture design: care for people, care for nature, provision for the future.
Participate, Harvest, Learn – Urban Gardening in practice
Berliners and visitors can stroll, picnic, play, grow vegetables, or discover plants and animals in the Open Garden Moritzplatz. The program is anything but rigid. Together with other participants, workshops and seminars on permaculture and sustainable topics are regularly held. Additionally: every first Saturday of the month is a communal gardening day.
On Sundays, an open plenum takes place from 12 PM, where garden matters are discussed and organized – and everyone can participate. This demonstrates that the Moritzplatz neighborhood garden is much more than just a hobby garden in Berlin: the garden sees itself as a communally organized place and common good – grassroots democratic, 100% non-commercial, and hierarchy-free.
