For this list I licked my way through the city and paid attention to what distinguishes a good ice cream shop: ice cream produced in house without artificial additives, a creamy texture without ice crystals, real variety right down to a good sorbet, and people behind the counter who love their ice cream.
In Prenzlauer Berg, the ice cream patisserie Hokey Pokey stands for artisanal gelato at patisserie level: Founder Niko Robert, former pastry chef at the Ritz Carlton, transforms the finest ingredients into ice cream flavors rarely found elsewhere in Berlin.
At Herrfurthplatz in Neukölln, not far from Tempelhofer Feld, Gelateria Mos Eisley serves freshly made Bolognese-style gelato daily. Owner Daniela Teuber relies on organic milk from Spreewald, vegan fruit sorbets, and daringly creative flavors that fully justify the name of the legendary Star Wars spaceport.
