Since 1989, Aldemir Eis ice cream parlor on Falckensteinstraße in Kreuzberg has been synonymous with homemade ice cream in freshly baked waffles. Unique flavors like Grandma's Apple Pie or Chocolate-Chili, the unmistakable waffle scent, and queues visible from afar make this shop a Kreuzberg institution.
Aldemir Eis: Kreuzberg’s Sweetest Address for Over 35 Years
Whoever walks along Falckensteinstraße inevitably follows the scent. Aldemir Ice Cream Parlor in Kreuzberg scores twice: not only are there unusual ice cream creations like Grandma’s Apple Pie, Chocolate-Chili, or Gorgonzola, but the waffles in which you get the scoops are also freshly baked right next to it. The ice cream parlor has existed in a family atmosphere since 1989. That’s as rare in Berlin’s gastronomy scene as a quiet summer night at Schlesisches Tor.
Owner Ismail Aldemir regularly develops new flavors because he views ice cream like fashion: every year there is a new flavor direction with its own assortment. So, whoever misses the season might miss a flavor forever. In total, there are around 40 flavors to choose from, including Grandma’s Apple Pie, Quark-Sesame-Honey, Yogurt-Rhubarb, Cookie, and Roasted Almond.
Waffles, Waiting Time, and Why Both Are Worth It
The homemade ice cream is not only a culinary highlight but also visually appealing: the freshly baked waffles are curved inwards and serve as an edible ice cream cup. The ice cream tastes fresh and creamy, and you can tell that it’s made with love. Therefore, bring patience. On warm days, a long queue often forms in front of the counter, but the waiting time is worth it, as the scent of waffles alone fuels anticipation.
Aldemir Eis also impresses with generous opening hours. Besides unusual flavors, the shop also has great opening hours: Sweet tooths can indulge here until 22:00, so an evening stroll with an ice cream in hand is perfectly possible.
