Royal Garden Academy: Gardening with History

The site was once home to the Royal Horticultural Training Institute, originally founded by Peter Joseph Lenné. The greenhouse complex from 1907 was meticulously restored and rebuilt in accordance with its historic status. In 2008, the ensemble awakened to new life – since then, garden designer Gabriella Pape has led the academy with a clear vision. The Royal Garden Academy combines knowledge, design, and plants into an inspiring place. So, anyone who thinks they can only buy geraniums here vastly underestimates what’s on offer.

Across 9,000 square meters, you’ll find everything a gardener’s heart desires. There’s also a greenhouse café, many flower beds, and the historic rose garden, which was restored in 2014. The café invites guests for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, either in a greenhouse-like building or directly in the garden.

If you seriously want to train your green thumb, the garden school is the perfect place. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced: The garden school offers courses for everyone who wants to deepen their passion for plants. From basic plant care to soil knowledge, plant selection, and pruning techniques, you’ll learn everything that makes a vibrant, year-round beautiful garden. Furthermore, the program extends to professional courses, where, for example, you learn to analyze your own garden or green space to make the best decisions for plant selection and placement and to deepen various planting principles.

Those who prefer to browse rather than learn will also find competent and friendly advice in the garden area, as well as robust, high-quality plants. In short: The Royal Garden Academy is one of the few places in Berlin where garden culture can truly be experienced – with dirt on your hands and a coffee in the greenhouse afterwards.
