When putting this list together, I paid attention to the whole range, from the big musical to the intimate stage for the very youngest. What mattered to me was showing venues that work with genuine commitment and take children of every age seriously. That way, every family finds the right theatre experience here, whether the child is just two or already twelve.
GRIPS Theater is the most famous children's theater in Berlin, performing since 1974 in a building from the Interbau exhibition at Hansaplatz. The main hall seats 367, while a second stage in Podewil at Alexanderplatz shows plays for children as young as two. The theater gained fame with the Berlin revue 'Linie 1,' which has been on the program since 1986.
The Theater an der Parkaue in Lichtenberg is one of the largest state theaters for young audiences in Germany, operating three stages and two studios in a listed former secondary school. The program starts with children aged three and up, complemented by clubs, workshops, and its own children's advisory board.
Schaubude Berlin is the city's production house for puppet and object theater and operates in a listed department store building from 1929 on Greifswalder Straße. Puppets, materials, and everyday objects are on stage. Many plays are aimed at children aged three and up and last around 45 minutes.

Komische Oper for Children brings out at least one new major children's opera each season and performs at the Schiller Theater in Charlottenburg during the renovation of its main house. The program also includes children's concerts, family tours, and a children's choir with almost 100 voices. Children up to 14 years pay 10 Euros.
Atze Music Theatre in Wedding is Germany's largest music theatre for children, operating three stages: a hall with 480 seats, a studio stage, and a semicircular tent stage for the youngest from three years old. The house's hallmark is the Singspiel (musical play). The theatre is located directly at the exit of the Amrumer Straße subway station.
The Astrid Lindgren Stage is the children's theater in FEZ-Berlin, located in the Wuhlheide Forest Park. Three stages host plays, puppet theater, children's concerts, and dance, from pieces for two-year-olds to productions for fourteen-year-olds. For many events, the theater ticket also grants access to the rest of the FEZ house program.
The Atrium Youth Art School in Märkisches Viertel is Germany's largest youth art school and the place on this list where children don't just watch, but play theatre themselves. The program includes theatre courses for children aged six and up, dance workshops, and class projects. Additionally, there's an art park with an outdoor stage and a large costume collection.
Theater Morgenstern is one of Berlin's children's theaters that has been playing in the same venue for years: in the listed Schlesiensaal of Friedenau Town Hall with up to 200 seats. The ensemble accompanies its productions live with a cello and presents plays for children aged three and up. "Wünsche" is nominated for the IKARUS Award 2026.
The Berlin Children's Theatre is an ensemble theatre without a fixed venue, performing its winter series in the large hall of the Fontane-Haus in the Märkisches Viertel. Founded in 1986, the non-profit association coined the term "family theatre" in 2004. It stages works from world children's literature, currently "Pippi Longstocking Celebrates Christmas" for ages four and up.
Theater o. N. was founded in 1979 and was the first independent theater group in the GDR. Its focus is on theater for very young audiences, meaning plays for children of nursery and kindergarten age. Since autumn 2026, the venue has been playing in the renovated Fröbelkapelle in Prenzlauer Berg and hosts the FRATZ International festival every two years.
