Thanks to the children's musical "Linie 1", among others, GRIPS Theater is probably the most famous of Berlin's children's theaters and a flagship of children's theater culture throughout Germany.
The GRIPS Theater at Hansaplatz can be seen from afar by its distinctive lettering on the roof and is one of the most famous children’s theaters, not only in Berlin but throughout Germany.
Already in the sixties, they began not only to perform fairy tales for children, but to develop modern plays for children set in the present. Plays with a socio-critical background, specifically written for children, were a novelty at the time – and often enough caused a stir. GRIPS thus served as a role model for other German children’s theaters. Many well-known actors once started their careers at GRIPS.
Today, GRIPS is long established, but still struggles with financial difficulties again and again.
