Theater Morgenstern in Friedenau: Children’s Theater in the Town Hall at Breslauer Platz

Friedenau Town Hall occupies an entire block between Breslauer Platz, Niedstraße, and Rheinstraße, and inside it lies the performance venue of Theater Morgenstern. Bus lines M48 and M85 stop at Breslauer Platz directly in front of the building; Friedenau S-Bahn station and Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz U-Bahn station are reachable on foot in just a few minutes. This means families can arrive without long transfers, and there are plenty of cafés around Breslauer Platz for the time before a performance.

Performances take place in the listed Schlesiensaal, which offers space for up to 200 spectators. This makes the hall large enough for entire school classes and at the same time small enough for children to recognize the faces on stage even from the back rows. An adult ticket costs 12 Euros, children pay 8 Euros for plays for ages three and up. A special price per person applies for families of five or more, and school classes receive even cheaper tickets with the JugendKulturService discount voucher. Tickets can be booked online via a ticket portal or by phone.

Live Cello Music and Plays for Ages Three and Up at Theater Morgenstern

The musical hallmark of the house is the cello, which accompanies the productions live instead of using pre-recorded music. The repertoire ranges from ancient sagas and fairy tales, and classics of world literature, to texts by contemporary authors. The current season includes, among other things, a world premiere by Dorit Linke for children aged six and up, a new production based on Charles Dickens, and the musical fairy tale „Little Longnose” based on Wilhelm Hauff. The production „Wishes” for children aged nine and up is nominated for the IKARUS Award 2026.

In addition to its repertoire, Theater Morgenstern operates its own theater education program. Under the title „Theater Active”, there are workshops for schools and daycare centers, as well as project days on the „Trilogy of Children’s Rights” for children aged eight and up. School classes and daycare groups generally book performances together with such a workshop, allowing the children to try out what they have seen themselves afterward.
