The Astrid Lindgren Stage is the children's theater in FEZ-Berlin, located in the Wuhlheide Forest Park. Three stages host plays, puppet theater, children's concerts, and dance, from pieces for two-year-olds to productions for fourteen-year-olds. For many events, the theater ticket also grants access to the rest of the FEZ house program.

Astrid Lindgren Stage at FEZ: Children’s Theater in Wuhlheide Forest Park

The Astrid Lindgren Stage is part of FEZ-Berlin, which opened as a pioneer palace in 1979 and has been operating as the Children, Youth and Family Center of the State of Berlin since 1990. The site is located in Wuhlheide Forest Park and comprises approximately 13,000 square meters of indoor space and about 175,000 square meters of outdoor space. Take the S3 to Wuhlheide station, from there it’s a twelve to fifteen-minute walk through the park. Alternatively, take tram 27 from Karlshorst or tram 60 or 67 from Schöneweide to the Freizeit- und Erholungszentrum (Leisure and Recreation Center) stop.

Parking spaces on the premises are very limited, a parking spot costs 4 Euros, and it gets crowded during Union home games or concerts at the Parkbühne. The building is constructed in levels, accessible via ramps and elevators; the elevator leads directly to the main stage, among other places. Four wheelchair spaces can be booked in the ticket shop. However, the smaller studio stage is not barrier-free. Those arriving without a car and with some time can also take the Berliner Parkeisenbahn in summer from Wuhlheide station, which runs right through the forest park.

Own Productions and Combi-Ticket at the Astrid Lindgren Stage

Three stages are used, and the program is correspondingly broad: plays, puppet and figure theater, concerts for children, dance, science shows, and English-language productions are presented side by side. Own productions include „Pippi Longstocking‟, „Mio, My Mio‟, „The Little Merman‟, and the Christmas play „Michel: Christmas in Lönneberga‟. The age recommendations are unusually precise and range from puppet theater for two-year-olds to plays for fourteen-year-olds.

A single ticket for many performances costs 9.50 Euros; for three or more people, each pays 7.50 Euros. The real advantage, however, lies in the combi-ticket: for many events, the theater ticket also grants access to the rest of the FEZ house program, including the hands-on exhibition at the Alice Museum for Children. A theater visit quickly turns into a full day trip. School classes and kindergarten groups can be transported free of charge to and from the Astrid Lindgren Stage via the Kulturbus initiative, and backstage tours are possible after performances.
