The Bird: A New York Steakhouse at Falkplatz

The Bird is located at Falkplatz in Prenzlauer Berg, at the northwest corner of Mauerpark and a few minutes from Schönhauser Allee station, where the U2, the Ringbahn (orbital railway), and trams M1 and M10 stop. The establishment describes itself as a New York style bar and steakhouse and places little value on etiquette: it sees itself as a relaxed bar with restaurant operations where pretty much everything is allowed. If you don’t feel like walking at the end of the evening, the staff will call you a taxi. Its location between Mauerpark and the Gleimviertel ensures that regulars from the neighborhood and visitors from all over the world sit at the same tables.

250 Grams of Beef in an English Muffin

Each burger consists of 250 grams of regionally sourced beef, freshly ground in-house every morning, and is served on an English muffin instead of the usual brioche bun. Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onion are served separately, so each guest can assemble their own burger. The kitchen explicitly asks guests to order burgers medium rare or medium and to eat them with their hands. The house burger Da Birdhouse with two patties, American cheese, bacon, and fried onions costs 18 Euros, six chicken wings are 8.50 Euros. The steaks come from US Black Angus cattle from Creekstone Farms and are dry-aged for 30 days. Vegetarian options include a Portobello burger and a patty made from lentils, carrots, and zucchini.
