Out of Berlin, into the forest: Eberswalde Zoo is located on the southern edge of the Barnim district town, a good 40 kilometers northeast of the capital, and is one of the most popular family excursion destinations in Brandenburg. Over 1,500 animals from five continents live here on 15 hectares of mixed forest landscape, including free-roaming monkeys, Siberian tigers, and a white lion.

Where Wolves, Lions, and Kangaroos Meet Forest Air

Eberswalde Zoo is located on 15 hectares in the middle of a beautiful mixed forest landscape and is home to 1,500 animals of 130 species from five continents. What sets it apart from a usual weekend excursion are its unusual enclosure concepts. Particularly noteworthy are the many primate species such as white-headed lemurs, common marmosets, or ring-tailed lemurs, which do not have their own enclosures in the zoo but roam freely throughout the entire area. So, anyone strolling through the paths must be prepared to suddenly find themselves in company.

Siberian tigers live in a recreated ice age glacial landscape with a climate path and adventure playground. The lions, including a white lion, are presented in a special way: the path leads through a tunnel to a fully glazed cave, where the big cats can be observed from close quarters. In addition, the tree adventure trail above the wolf enclosure, as well as the walk-through fallow deer and kangaroo enclosure, invite closer encounters.

Eberswalde Zoo: An Excursion Destination with Real Added Value for Families

The zoo is one of the three most popular excursion destinations for families in Berlin-Brandenburg. It appeals not only to animal lovers. There is much to discover for younger visitors: with ten adventure playgrounds, a petting zoo, and a children’s safari, fun and adventure are guaranteed, and children can really let off steam on the playgrounds, slide down giant slides, or climb treehouses. In addition, the zoo actively participates in species protection: various conservation projects in which the zoo is involved contribute to the preservation of endangered animal species, and visitors can find out on site how they can make a contribution themselves.

By car, the zoo can be reached from Berlin city center in about an hour; by train, visitors should plan about 90 minutes from Berlin Central Station. So: Brandenburg calls, and Eberswalde Zoo is worth every kilometer.
