Picnic Berlin

Picnic Berlin is the city's only true picnic basket rental service: For seven euros per person, you get a picnic basket, blanket, crockery, cutlery, glasses, and the subsequent cleaning. You assemble your food from the partner café's menu and pay for it there. Currently, pick-up is at Café Engels on Herrfurthstraße in Neukölln.

Basket, Blanket, and Crockery for Seven Euros Per Person

Most picnic plans fail not because of the park, but because of logistics: Who has a basket, enough blankets, and glasses for five people in their cupboard? This is exactly where Picnic Berlin comes in. Lena Wenckebach’s service works differently from a delicatessen with a ready-made basket: You book an appointment online at a partner café and receive a pre-prepared picnic basket with a blanket, crockery, cutlery, glasses, and napkins. The service fee of seven euros per person covers the preparation and subsequent washing up. Important to know: The food is not included. You put it together from the café’s menu and pay for it directly on site, which has the advantage that you decide whether it will be three sandwiches or an entire sheet of cake. The basket arrives packed at the counter; it is returned unwashed, as the service takes care of that. Picnic Berlin does not require a deposit, but the service fee will not be refunded if you cancel.

Pick-up in Schillerkiez, with Bad Weather Plan

Pick-up is currently at Café Engels on Herrfurthstraße in Neukölln, right in the middle of Schillerkiez and thus only a few minutes from Tempelhofer Feld. From the menu there, baskets can be filtered by vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options; a vegan sandwich costs 7.50 euros, a slice of cake 4.50 euros. Up to twenty people are possible, and for larger events, there is a special offer with decoration for up to fifty guests. The arrangement for bad weather is practical: If it rains, the ordered food can be eaten in the café, so the appointment is not canceled. Booking is done via a date selector on the Picnic Berlin website; there is no fixed pre-order deadline, but it’s still worth booking early. The nearest station is Boddinstraße on the U8, and bus lines M43 and 166 also stop nearby. A second pick-up location on Potsdamer Straße has been announced but is not yet bookable. If you are planning larger groups, it’s best to inquire directly, as the number of baskets per appointment is limited.
