A visit to the Slavic castle is well suited in connection with a hiking or cycling tour in the Spreewald. Just driving around is too dull for most people, you need an destination that you can head for.
The Slavonic castle is ideally suited for this purpose, it is located near Raddusch, very green, surrounded by nature in the middle of the Spreewald forest near the town of Vetschau in Brandenburg. The castle, as it looks today, is largely a faithful replica of the original.
In the early Middle Ages in the 9th/10th century, Lower Lusatia on the western edge of the Spreewald forest was covered by a dense network of small ring wall-shaped castles.
As a typical Lusatian soil monument, Raddusch Slavic castle is reminiscent of a culture that has largely disappeared today. Since 2003, the Slawenburg Raddusch association has been operating the castle on behalf of its sponsor, the city of Vetschau. Inside the castle there is a permanent exhibition presenting the settlement history of Lower Lusatia from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages.
