In Wedding, on the so-called Green Triangle near Leopoldplatz, lies one of Berlin's most accessible children's farms. The Kinderbunter Bauernhof combines pedagogically supervised animal care with gardening, crafts, and genuine community, all free of charge, open, and cross-generational.

Ponies, Goats, and a Duck Pond in Wedding

Those who visit the Kinderbunter Bauernhof for the first time are greeted directly at the entrance by a duck pond that needs no great introduction. Ponies, goats, and sheep, as well as ducks, geese, and chickens, live in the enclosures. Depending on the season, additional residents join them. In total, the farm is home to around 56 typical farm animals, and not least because of the seven ponies, well over 90 percent of regular visitors in the open area are girls. The ponies are not just admired here, however. Children groom ponies, observe goats and sheep, and the team teaches them how to properly interact with the animals. They can also learn how to lead and ride ponies correctly.

Furthermore, the children’s farm in Wedding offers much more than just animal contact. Small circus projects, focusing on the interaction between humans and animals, are also part of the program. In addition to activities with animals, children can also get active in the garden or be creative with crafts. This creates a place where city children encounter something that is often missing in their everyday lives.

Kinderbunter Bauernhof: Where Responsibility Becomes Playful

The Kinderbunter Bauernhof aims to teach children sustainable interaction with animals, as well as social and empathetic coexistence. The facility is intended to be a place of encounter, participation, and community. Many children learn here for the first time to take responsibility for another living creature, often growing beyond themselves in the process.

The Kinderbunter Bauernhof is a facility for open children’s and youth work under independent sponsorship, founded in April 2015 from an initiative of educators, parents, and former users of the Weddinger Kinderfarm. The programs are primarily aimed at children and young people aged six to fourteen, but the farm is also open to younger and older visitors. It is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 13:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 18:00. During holidays, operations also begin at 10:00 on weekdays. So, if you’re looking for a children’s farm in Berlin that doesn’t feel like an event backdrop but like a real neighborhood spot, this is the right place.
