A Children’s Farm with Real History

On the 300-year-old, listed three-sided farm, a farming operation is run as it was at the beginning of the 20th century. You feel it immediately when you enter the grounds. The Tierhof in Alt-Marzahn is unique in the city because the basic architectural structures have been preserved and rural life still proceeds here as it did more than 100 years ago. Yet, the Marzahn Children’s Farm is not a museum. Around the listed farm building are pastures for horses, goats, and ponies, and the three alpacas are real crowd-pullers. During a stroll across the grounds, you will also encounter peacocks and ducks. Furthermore, the farm breeds endangered livestock breeds such as Red Mangalitsa woolly pigs and Thuringian Forest goats. If you like, you can then take a look at the agricultural machinery park, where Berlin’s agriculture through the ages comes to life. Almost all exhibited machines and equipment come from Marzahn farmers or the surrounding area.

Tierhof Marzahn: Participate instead of just watching

What makes Tierhof Marzahn special as a children’s farm is its program. For children, there are afternoon activities, storytelling hours, and donkey rides. School classes and daycare groups can also book guided tours and project days. Additionally, there are workshops on grain and vegetable plants, fairy tale readings in winter, and farm stories on hiking days. The team also organizes special events during school holidays, such as the “Living Fairy Tale” format, where a donkey, dog, cat, and rooster play the Town Musicians of Bremen. If you want to get hands-on: ‘Plowing and Harvesting’ is the motto on the activity field in the grain teaching garden. In summer, the Tierhof is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8 AM to 12 PM and from 1 PM to 3:45 PM. On weekends and public holidays, it opens from 11 AM to 3 PM. Advance booking is recommended for pony riding and guided tours.
