Pinke Panke Children’s Farm: Where Stick Bread and Goat Care Are Part of Everyday Life

Pinke Panke Children’s Farm is an open, educationally supervised playground for schoolchildren aged 7 to 14 in Berlin-Pankow. Anyone entering the grounds by Bürgerpark immediately notices: It’s not about perfection here. The guiding principle is ‘The journey is the reward’ – voluntariness, diversity, and openness characterize the work at the children’s farm, because the aim is not perfection, but experimentation and play. You can feel this in every corner of the grounds.

Around 70 animals live here, including mini pigs, donkeys, geese, rabbits, sheep, and chickens. Children aged 6 and up can visit the animals from 14:00 to 17:00 in small groups under the guidance of staff and actively help out. At 16:00, the four-legged friends are fed together, followed by tea and pastries as a reward. This is what nature experience in the city looks like.

Workshop, Campfire, and Vegetable Garden: The Full Program

The combination of free spaces, social care, and content-related offers enables low-threshold learning in both social processes and ecologically oriented play. Caregivers are available to children with advice and practical help in the bicycle repair workshop and teach them how to work with wood, soapstone, wool, and colors. Those who prefer to work outdoors will also find a construction playground, a vegetable and herb garden, and numerous play options.

During school holidays, a variety of programs are available: sometimes huts are built, sometimes food is cooked over a fire. The feedings, various festivals, and the flea market are particularly popular. In principle, Pinke Panke Children’s Farm is open to everyone and free of charge, but a small donation is requested. On Tuesdays, the farm is only open for schoolchildren; from Wednesday to Sunday, it is open to everyone from 10:00 to 18:30. Monday is a rest day, also for the animals to recover.
