In Münchehofe, Brandenburg, in the heart of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park, an organic dairy literally shows how milk, butter, and cheese are made. Families can watch the ongoing production through glass walls. Located about 70 km south of Berlin, this excursion destination combines curiosity and fresh air on one site.

Transparent Dairy Münchehofe: When Cheesemakers Have No Secrets

The name truly says it all here. From its inception, the vision was to demonstrate the journey of milk from the organic farm to retail. Through a glass corridor, visitors can watch the cheesemakers at work and peek into the cheese storage. This is not a museum with stuffed cows, but real, ongoing production. On one side, you look at milk processing and packaging facilities; on the other, at cheese vats, cheese presses, and brine baths. The Transparent Dairy offers special guided tours for children and school classes. Children under 6 years old receive free admission, and children under 12 pay a reduced price. Important to know: Tours take place by appointment on Tuesdays at 14:00 and Thursdays at 10:00.

After the Tour: Playground, Themed Garden, and Organic Farm Shop

Each tour concludes with a tasting of the dairy’s own products. Specialties include fresh organic hay milk, organic cheese specialties, organic barrel butter, and yogurt products. If that’s not enough, there are more reasons to stay outdoors. After the visit, the themed garden, a playground, pastures with traditional cattle breeds, and an old orchard invite you to linger and explore nature. The themed garden covers an area of 1,500 m² and is divided into three sections: a perennial garden, a herb garden, and a seasonal garden. A visit to the farm shop is also worthwhile: the wide range of products includes fruits and vegetables, bread and baked goods, and specialties from the Spreewald region. Cyclists are also welcome. The Dahme cycle path is signposted from S-Bahn station Grünau and leads directly into the region.
