Anyone who wants to experience a real safari adventure with children will find one of the region's most charming destinations in Nedlitz near Gommern: Straußenland Nedlitz. On five hectares of pasture, the world's largest birds live here and can be petted, fed, and admired.

Safari, Petting, and Standing on an Ostrich Egg

Straußenland Nedlitz has been run as a family business for over 22 years. The 5-hectare farm was established in 2004 with great attention to detail. Since then, families from all over the region have come here because this destination is simply something you won’t find anywhere else. The farm is home to about 35 African ostriches of various age groups, 3 emus, and, most recently, 10 South African guinea fowl. Straußenland offers visitors the opportunity to get to know these fascinating animals during a guided tour.

During the hourly safari tours, visitors walk along the paths, feeding and petting the world’s largest birds, and learning a lot about the animals for 45 minutes. If visitors want to go directly into the pasture with the animals, there are also Adventure Tours, where they go into the pasture by pickup. These tours must be booked in advance and last 1.5 hours. What we find particularly exciting: Young and old guests are welcome to stand on an ostrich egg, the largest and most stable egg in the world.

Beyond the animals, the grounds have much more to offer: a small adventure playground, a ping-pong table, and a volleyball court invite children to play, while adults can relax on the idyllically laid-out farm or gaze towards the Emu-Lookout. Afterwards, a stop at the Farm Café is worthwhile: here you’ll find waffles or scrambled eggs, eggnog, and eggnog cake in a jar. If you’re looking for a souvenir, you’ll also find it: the premises include a Farm Shop offering exclusive ostrich products like ostrich eggs and African handicrafts.

Prices and Arrival

Admission to the front area of the facility with the café, shop, playground, and volleyball court is free. Farm access, including a 45-minute guided tour, costs 11.50 Euros for adults and 6.00 Euros for children. This makes Straußenland Nedlitz one of the more affordable destinations in the region. Straußenland is located near Gommern in Saxony-Anhalt, just outside Brandenburg, and can be reached from Berlin by car in about 1.5 hours. The farm is open from March to October, Wednesday to Sunday. Parking is available directly on-site.
