Tiergarten

In Tiergarten, just a few steps from Potsdamer Platz, the Felleshus unites the embassies of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden under a copper band. Inside, Smørrebrød, jazz, and changing exhibitions await, all without a plane ticket.

Felleshus: Nordic holiday feeling in Tiergarten

The Felleshus, which means “Community House” in German, is the freely accessible cultural and event center of the five Nordic embassies: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The complex on Rauchstraße in Tiergarten is just a few steps from Potsdamer Platz and is much more than an administrative building.

From the outside, a green copper band unites the buildings into a single entity. Inside, the individual embassies stand out distinctly from each other, built from typical local materials such as limestone, larch wood, and granite. A stroll around the grounds is therefore just as worthwhile as a visit inside the house.

Exhibitions, Jazz Canteen, and Nordic Fika

The program runs throughout the year: exhibitions, readings, concerts, film screenings, and lectures are on the schedule, often with free admission and prior registration. The Jazz Canteen on the third floor is popular, where established and unknown acts from the Nordics play in a relaxed bar atmosphere.

On weekdays, the canteen offers three lunch dishes, including daily fresh fish and a vegetarian option, as well as traditional Smørrebrød. It’s lighter in the Kaffebar with coffee and cinnamon buns. In good weather, the terrace opens, and by prior reservation, the sauna can even be used.
