Theatersport Berlin at BKA: Improv Theater as a Competition

Founded in 1995 as Berlin’s first improvisation theater, the ensemble consists of professional actors and musicians. The concept is as simple as it is captivating: Two acting teams compete against each other, vying for the audience’s favor, with the audience practically directing and ultimately crowning the winner. The legendary acting teams Spartak Stanislawski and Dynamo Duse face off every Monday at the BKA Theater in a fierce competition. So don’t just be spectators, but play along: The stage becomes an arena, the audience cheers on the teams, and an MC guides the participants from round to round and penalizes fouls.

Spontaneous, Unrehearsed, Different Every Time

At Theatersport Berlin, every scene is 100% improvised. Inspired by suggestions from the audience, the actors create stories, songs, or poems that are sometimes hilariously funny or deeply touching, because nothing is rehearsed or agreed upon. Thus, every evening is a true one-of-a-kind. The BKA Theater itself is already a destination for anyone who appreciates theater outside the mainstream: Since 1988, a true gem among Berlin’s stages has resided on the fifth floor of a residential building on Mehringdamm in Kreuzberg.
