The Top 10 Best Bowling Alleys in Berlin

The ball rolls, the pins scatter, and for a second everyone at the lane looks the same way. Bowling alleys in Berlin come in very different shapes: big centres with twenty lanes and more, certified competition houses where league players train, and lounges that dim the lights and open a dancefloor after dark. Add the old nine-pin Kegelbahn in the cellar of a Kneipe, where the same nine pins have been falling for decades. Almost everywhere you pay per lane and per hour rather than per person, and the gap between a Wednesday afternoon and a Saturday night can be fifteen euros. So which lane suits which night out? We played our way across the city, looked at the technology, the space and the menu, and compared what a weekend round actually costs. In Schöneberg, Berolina Bowling Lounge runs 32 lanes, four of them in a private VIP lounge. In Mitte, Strike Lanes sits on the third floor of the Alexa with 20 Brunswick lanes, cosmic light and its own dancefloor. And on Storkower Straße in Prenzlauer Berg, BowlHouse keeps 16 competition lanes approved by the German bowling federation. Where will you throw your first strike?

For years bowling was something I only did on birthdays, until I noticed how different the Berlin alleys really are. For this list I paid attention to the state of the lanes and the rental shoes, whether the scoring system gives up halfway through a game, how much room a group gets at the lane, and what food actually arrives at your seat. The result is ten addresses across the city, from certified league centre to lounge with a dancefloor.
