Art & Cultural Center Brotfabrik: Improv Theatre with Resident Ensemble and Ethos

The Brotfabrik is located in the Weißensee district, adjacent to Pankow and Prenzlauer Berg, and houses a cinema, a gallery, an inclusive studio, a stage, and a pub with several lounges. As one of Berlin’s last independently run multi-genre venues, the house has a clear ethos: art is a staple. This also applies to the improv theatre, which has been a permanent part of the program here for years.

Firmly rooted on stage are the Improvisionäre: This improv theatre ensemble from Berlin consists of actors with additional qualifications in theatre pedagogy, communication, project and event management, speech therapy, as well as social and economic sciences. Every third Wednesday of the month, they perform their show „The Best Improv Show in the World” in the Maschinenhaus. In addition, there are regular evening formats on the Brotfabrik Stage, where the audience dictates genres, themes, and moods.

Two Ensembles, One Stage, No Script

Besides the Improvisionäre, Theater ohne Probe has also been a regular guest for years. Brecht’s Epic Theatre combines with the spontaneous interactive fun of improvisation theatre, resulting in an entertaining and current format that is new every time and has something to say. An exciting evening of pure theatre, whose creation you can experience and influence.

Thus, the Brotfabrik offers two stylistically different approaches to improv theatre Berlin. The schedule, with around 300 performances a year, includes not only improvisation but also drama, performance, and dance theatre, with young artists regularly performing on the stage, which seats 40 to 80 people. It is precisely this proximity to the action that makes evenings here so special: the audience sits close, thinks along, and participates in shaping the experience.
