The Pferdesportpark Berlin-Karlshorst lies at Treskowallee 159 in Lichtenberg, and anyone walking through the gate stands on grounds larger than most destinations in the city. Karlshorst station and the tram on Treskowallee are within walking distance, and admission and parking are free. The track opened in 1894, at first for steeplechases, and tens of thousands came to the very first race day while the crown prince and princess watched. Trotting has been raced here since 1945. From the Karlshorst entrance built in the years before the First World War, through the equestrian monument of 1925, to the great grandstand of 1937, the history is written into the place. The course measures twelve hundred metres, and races with a rolling start usually run over two thousand. The whole thing is run by an association, and a riding school and an Icelandic horse centre have their place on the grounds as well. On some race days there are pony races in which children from six years take the start themselves with mini trotters.

It starts gently with cocoa and birthday cake. After that the way leads to the horses: stroking, feeding, playing in the straw, and every child gets one led ride on a horse. Then come games such as horseshoe throwing, egg and spoon races and musical chairs with small prizes, before a buffet for the children closes the afternoon.
