On Schlangenbader Strasse in Wilmersdorf

Kinder Kochspass sits at Schlangenbader Strasse 27 in Wilmersdorf, in a residential area in the south-west of the city. Heidelberger Platz station with the U3 and the ring line is nearby, as is Breitenbachplatz, and by car the corner is quickly reached over the city motorway. The studio is run by Julia Romahn, who has a company of her own for it. The surroundings are quiet, playgrounds and the Grunewald are not far, and anyone coming on the ring line gets there fast from the south and west of the city. The house sees itself as a cooking studio and an event location for families at once: there is a kitchen laid out for groups of children, an indoor playground with a climbing frame and an area where parents can wait. Alongside birthdays there are cooking classes, projects with school classes and nursery groups and holiday camps for six to twelve year olds, where the parents are invited to a gala dinner on the final day.

Head chef for an afternoon

The birthday cooking class at Kinder Kochspass starts from six years, and the menu is chosen together beforehand. Every child gets a chefs hat to paint with their own name and pictures, plus a colourful apron. Then, guided by the course leader, they chop, stir and plate up until two or three courses stand on the table. The smaller version runs two hours with a main course and a dessert and costs 45 euros per child with a minimum of 270 euros for the group. The larger one covers two and a half hours and three courses at 55 euros per child, and there the birthday child is given a spatula as a present. Drinks are included in both, as is the time on the indoor playground, and at the end every child takes the hat, a recipe book and a cooking diploma home. For the youngest guests between two and five there is a three hour party on the playground instead. A minimum applies to the larger version too, so both packages work out from about six guests.
