A mysterious alchemist, tricky puzzles and lots of Berlin charm: Samavarta is the latest outdoor escape game in Berlin-Mitte.

Anyone who only knows escape games from dark rooms will be proven wrong here. Equipped with your own smartphone, you embark on a journey through Berlin-Neukölln, following the trail of a mysterious alchemist and searching for a hidden artifact. The puzzles are cleverly designed and require not only logical thinking but also a good eye for detail. We were out and about ourselves in May 2025 and tested Samavarta.

What is Samavarta all about?

Samavarta is not a simple puzzle tour. It is a quest series whose first story, “The Essence of Forgotten Memories”, sends you on the trail of a mysterious alchemist. Over two parts, each around 1.5 kilometers long, you move through Berlin, solving puzzles with your own smartphone and immersing yourself in a world full of videos, images, audio, mini-games and augmented reality elements. You solve puzzles, follow clues and constantly look left and right because new details are waiting everywhere. This makes the game extremely interactive, exciting and, above all, damn Berlin-related, and there is no time limit. So you can let yourself drift.

Is it more for professionals or for everyone?

We were honestly surprised: the tasks are clever, challenging and sometimes so tricky that you risk a little argument in the team – all with a wink, of course. If you want to succeed here, you need teamwork, patience and a desire for a real challenge. If you get stuck, you will be given various hints and assistance depending on the task. The outdoor escape game is perfect for friends, families or colleagues who fancy a challenge. Tourist or local? It doesn’t matter! Berliners are guaranteed to rediscover their city here. The game is recommended for ages 14 and up.

How mysterious is the experience really?

Very! The story is full of surprises, and thanks to immersive storytelling, each station draws you deeper into the puzzle. Some tasks await you outside, others in small indoor rooms, some even work with real objects on site. And don’t worry: if something is too tricky for you, you can skip ahead with the walkthrough.

Why is Samavarta typically Berlin?

Quite simply because it was released after 3 years of work in September 2024 by two Berlin sisters who love their city. Instead of generic escape content, it’s full of heart and soul. You get to know Berlin in a new way, discover little corners that surprise even native Berliners and end up feeling a bit like one of those clever people from crime series.

Can you only play this when the weather is nice?

Of course, it’s more fun when the sun is shining. But Samavarta doesn’t depend on the weather, as long as you have a rain jacket. You’re constantly on the move anyway, so you won’t freeze. And: especially in bad weather, you often have the streets of Berlin almost to yourself, which is almost a bonus!

Our conclusion:

Samavarta combines tricky puzzles, exciting stories and the magic of Berlin to create an outdoor escape game that really stands out. If you’re looking for an unusual fun activity in Berlin that challenges your mind and legs in equal measure, you’ll find it here. And that’s exactly why Samavarta is in our top 10.
