Groove in Focus is a dance school in Berlin-Neukölln specializing in Hip-Hop and Afro Dance for adults. It was founded by Eric Dodji, who prioritizes authentic movement, creative freedom, and personal development through dance. The result is an atmosphere that noticeably differs from traditional dance schools. Not an anonymous dance school: the number of participants is deliberately limited so that everyone gets enough space and individual attention.
Classes take place at two locations: Mondays at Musikfabrik in Neukölln, Neuköllnische Allee 6-8, and Tuesdays at Schöne Schule on Mehringdamm in Kreuzberg, each from 20:00 to 22:00. Both locations are easily accessible by public transport. A trial lesson costs 20 Euros.
Learn Freestyle without Pressure to Be Perfect
Hip-Hop and Afro Dance are taught. Both styles have their own character: Hip-Hop stands for groove, freestyle, and an urban movement language; Afro stands for rhythm, energy, and cultural expression. Both styles challenge body and mind simultaneously.
After a short warm-up, it goes straight into the basics: first steps, simple rhythms, and movements. The focus is mainly on body awareness and musicality, without choreography stress. At the end, there is room for free dancing and experimentation. Most participants start without prior experience, as the courses are designed precisely for this. It’s not about how good you already are, but about starting. The rest comes week by week by itself.
