Kindertheater Coq Au Vin Mitte
The Coq au Vin children’s and family theatre plays circus pieces at the Pfefferberg in which acrobatics, comedy and theatre come together and the children are drawn into the action. A birthday begins with table time for cake and presents and goes on to the performance, with a treasure hunt in a simplified version for the youngest guests if you want one.
At the Pfefferberg on Schoenhauser Allee
The stage is at Schoenhauser Allee 176, in the theatre hall of the Pfefferberg, on the grounds of a former brewery where Mitte turns into Prenzlauer Berg. Senefelderplatz underground station is a few minutes away, the tram lines M1 and M10 stop right outside, and with a pushchair the way from the courtyard into the hall is short. Around it there are courtyards, cafes and, within walking distance, the playground in the Volkspark am Weinberg if there is time to spare before the show. The hall itself sits in the courtyard, away from the main road, which is pleasant with a group of small children. The house run by Thomas Endl is not tied to this one stage: Coq au Vin has a venue of its own on Wildenbruchstrasse in Neukoelln and also performs at the Circus Schatzinsel on May-Ayim-Ufer and at the Biergarten Jockel in Kreuzberg. Which piece plays where changes with the programme, but the circus idea stays the same.
Circus to join in with, cake included
The pieces by Coq au Vin combine acrobatics, comedy and theatre and are made for children between three and ten. The children sit on mats in the front row and the parents on the seats behind them, and they are pulled into the action rather than left to watch. A performance lasts around fifty minutes, which is exactly the right length for toddlers. The simplest birthday option costs the regular admission plus a flat 20 euros: the group gets a table for cake and presents, and then the show begins. Anyone who wants more books a circus treasure hunt, in which hidden clues are tracked down and the first circus or magic tricks learned, available in a simplified version for children under six. The tables are cleared shortly before the start so the hall is free, and every guest takes part in the performance, since watching alone is not an option. Cake, snacks and drinks may be brought along, and drinks are sold on site as well. Payment is in cash.

Price level

Extra costs
Presents for the treasure chest cost 25 euros for up to twelve children and 50 euros for up to twenty-four; own presents may be brought along. Above twelve children an extra supervisor is needed, at 70 euros.
Age
The pieces are made for children between three and ten. The circus treasure hunt is available from six years and in a simplified version for children below that, and the magic course from seven.
Timing
If you celebrate before the show, the group should arrive about two hours ahead, and about one hour ahead if you celebrate afterwards. A performance lasts around fifty minutes, and the tables are cleared shortly before it starts.
Food and drink
Cake, snacks and drinks may be brought along. On site water costs 2 euros, juice, cola or coffee 2.50 euros, and Bionade, apple spritzer and popcorn 3.50 euros each.
Payment
Payment is in cash, as there is no card reader on site. The bill is settled about an hour before the performance, with drinks paid separately at the bar.
