Feuer & Flamme Kerzenwerkstatt
At the Kerzenwerkstatt Feuer & Flamme in Prenzlauer Berg children pull their own candles: pick a wick and a colour, dip it into the warm wax again and again, twist and bend it until the candle stands up. Twelve colours, four candles per child and the guidance are included in the price, and pre-school groups have terms of their own.
Between Greifswalder and Danziger Strasse
The Kerzenwerkstatt sits at Chodowieckistrasse 2 in Prenzlauer Berg, where Greifswalder and Danziger Strasse meet. The tram lines M4 and M10 stop on Greifswalder Strasse, and the ring line at Prenzlauer Allee is a few minutes away on foot. Old apartment streets with cafes lie all around, and because the wax needs about half an hour to harden after the pulling, the playground in the neighbourhood is worth planning in: groups can spend the waiting time there and collect the candles afterwards. Feuer & Flamme is by now the only shop in the city that sells nothing but candles. On sale are candles in many sizes, colours and shapes, made from rapeseed, soy, beeswax, stearin and olive oil wax and dyed right through rather than pressed, along with wax sheets, wax pens, wicks and raw wax to take home, plus candle holders, new and vintage. Anyone who would rather not pull candles themselves can take a voucher for any amount, digital, for collection or sent as a letter. The shop is compact, but the shelves are full, and the workshop sits right behind it.
A wick, twelve colours and four dips
The sequence at the Kerzenwerkstatt is made for small hands and split into five steps: first every child chooses the length of the wick and a colour from twelve shades, then the wick goes into the warm wax again and again until the candle is thick enough. After that it is twisted, bent and shaped, and at the end further colours go over the top. The price from 35 euros per person covers four candles, the materials and the guidance, and the final bill is worked out by weight, so more or thicker candles cost a little more. Around two to two and a half hours is the right amount of time to allow. Closed groups, which include birthdays and family gatherings, pay 40 to 45 euros per person as a rule, while school classes and pre-school groups have terms of their own. An appointment is always needed, and groups are arranged by telephone, with the size of the group and the sequence settled in the same call. Water, lemonade, coffee and tea are available, and payment is in cash or by card.

Price level

Duration
