Hidden in the middle of Bäkepark in Steglitz is one of Berlin's most beautiful playgrounds: around 3,000 square meters of Africa and adventure, right by the Teltow Canal. Wooden giraffes, zebras, and palm trees create a jungle atmosphere, while climbing towers, zip lines, and hammocks do the rest.
Jungle Playground in Bäkepark: Where Steglitz becomes the Savannah
Those who head for Dalandweg 21 in Steglitz will suddenly find themselves in another world. The approximately 3,000 square meter play area on Dalandweg is shaded by trees and designed like a jungle. The theme is consistently executed here: almost life-sized giraffes, zebras, tigers, a snake, a spider, monkeys, tall wooden palm trees, and even an ivory gate adorn the area. If you look closely, you might briefly wonder if you’re still in Berlin. Fortunately, yes.
Especially nice: In summer, the shady green of the lush tree population creates a true jungle feeling. Parents will also find numerous seating options on benches within the play area, and the Bäkepark itself invites relaxation and play on large sunbathing lawns. After all, accompanying adults also need a break now and then.
Climbing, Zipping, Chilling: The Offerings at the Jungle Playground
The range of play activities is remarkably diverse. Climbing enthusiasts will have their eyes light up: climbing rocks, rope nets, wobbly suspension bridges, and balance beams invite them to scramble. Those who prefer to move at lightning speed can use the liana zip line. A treehouse with a large tube slide is enthusiastically conquered by children, as are the other play areas accessible via rope nets, suspension bridges, and balance beams. The youngest visitors are also catered for: smaller children feel particularly at home in the “Jungle Village.”
If you haven’t had enough after the playground, you can stroll further directly. The public playground in Bäkepark is located right by the Teltow Canal, making it easy to combine with a walk along its banks. In addition, a separately designed area with table tennis tables, a streetball court, and a wooden shelter with benches also provides a meeting point for older children and teenagers. One of Berlin’s best playgrounds, offering something for all age groups from 3 to 12 years.
