Fairy Tale Playground Berlin: Where Grimm’s Characters Invite You to Climb

If you’re heading to Neukölln with children, you should definitely not miss the Fairy Tale Playground in Von-der-Schulenburg-Park. The extensive playground on Sonnenallee is thematically dedicated to the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. This means: Everywhere in the park, children and parents encounter familiar characters from the fairy tale book. Rapunzel looks out from the castle tower, Hansel and Gretel stand in front of the witch, and the seven ravens sit on the swing. Those who look closely will find a few more.

The heart of the playground is a large climbing castle. To conquer it, children must balance, climb, and squeeze through tubes. Those who reach the top can take the tunnel slide. Additionally, a chain suspension bridge and a mud area with various levels beckon. For smaller children, there is also a specially designed, smaller climbing structure with a playhouse and a nest swing. This way, every age group finds its place.

A Playground as an Excursion Destination for the Whole Family

To make the visit a real outing for adults too, a stroll through the rest of the park is worthwhile. Right next door is the listed Fairy Tale Fountain, created by sculptor Ernst Moritz Geyger. The entire facility is also designed to be barrier-free: a wide path leads wheelchair-friendly right through the castle complex. Those who need a short break will find a seating area for reading. Table tennis and foosball ensure that older children also get their money’s worth. The Fairy Tale Playground is thus one of the most versatile playgrounds in Berlin.
