Pfaueninsel Tavern at the End of Waldchaussee

The Pfaueninsel Tavern is located at the end of a long forest avenue in Wannsee, exactly where the ferry departs for the UNESCO World Heritage island of the same name. Opposite the ferry terminal is the rustic tavern with its striking green and white awnings. The building itself has history: once used as a stable by Queen Luise, the ensemble now houses two dining rooms, a banquet hall, and two spacious outdoor terraces with views of the surrounding river landscape. The ambiance reflects the tradition of taverns from bygone days and was meticulously modernized in 2015/2016.

As soon as the weather permits, the beer garden fills up. In summer, guests can sit pleasantly in the large, green inner courtyard of the horseshoe-shaped building. Inside, rustic coziness awaits: a particularly snug room with a fireplace provides additional warmth and charm.

Pfaueninsel Tavern: Home-style Cooking with Havel View

The menu features down-to-earth German cuisine that doesn’t rely on flashy effects. In addition to expansive water views, the listed restaurant offers a wide selection of homemade dishes, including Havelland potato soup with smoked bacon or Thuringian sausage with red cabbage and apples. Even the Königsberger Klopse are still handmade here. For a sweet finish, cakes and tarts are made in-house. Seasonal specialties such as mushrooms, asparagus, or pumpkin are also added.

A visit is worthwhile not just as a stop after a ferry adventure. The tavern looks back on a long tradition along the riverside hiking trail between Pfaueninsel and Glienicke Bridge in the far west of Berlin, which originated around 1840. Along this route, it’s almost impossible to pass by the house, and that’s no coincidence.
