AMRIT Mitte

AMRIT Mitte on Oranienburger Straße is one of Berlin's largest Indian restaurants: around 300 seats on the covered terrace, another 200 inside. The cuisine follows the Punjabi recipes of the Bans brothers, who opened their first establishment in 1996. For large groups and spontaneous visits, this is the most reliable Indian address in the city.

AMRIT Mitte: Location and Terrace on Oranienburger Straße

AMRIT Mitte is located at Oranienburger Straße 45, opposite the former Tacheles and a few minutes’ walk from the New Synagogue, Hackescher Markt, and Museum Island. The Oranienburger Straße S-Bahn station is around the corner, and tram M1 stops right outside. In front of the building, the terrace begins with around 300 seats under a heated pergola, which was built during the second lockdown and has made the outdoor area usable all year round ever since. It includes a cocktail bar, with prices starting at 5.90 Euros.

Inside: Punjabi Recipes from the Bans Family

Inside, there are another approximately 200 seats. The cooking follows the recipes that the mother of founders Balbir and Harmeet Bans brought from Punjab. The brothers opened their first restaurant in Berlin in 1996; in 2026, the family will celebrate thirty years of AMRIT. The team grinds spices in-house, the Basmati rice comes from Indian family farms, and chicken and lamb are halal-certified. The menu includes Butter Chicken for 14.90 Euros, Palak Paneer for 12.50 Euros, and the vegan Amritsari Chole for 11.50 Euros, along with Samosas for 6.80 Euros and Naan from 2.80 Euros. Lunch specials range between 8.90 and 11.90 Euros.
