Since 1994, Cynthia Barcomi and her team have been roasting their own Arabica beans and baking everything themselves in Kreuzberg's Bergmannkiez. With this, the American baking icon has not only created an institution on Bergmannstraße but has also shaped Berlin's coffee culture.

Barcomi’s Coffee Roastery: New York meets Kreuzberg

American Cynthia Barcomi opened her Café & Coffee Roastery on Bergmannstraße, inspired by a café in her hometown. In doing so, in 1994, she laid the foundation for a Berlin coffee culture that can be found throughout the city today. What was once a real specialty is now normal in Berlin. The coffee roastery has lost none of its appeal.

The assortment ranges from strong espresso varieties to modern fruity blends, offering both blends and single-origin coffee beans. The coffees are roasted in a drum roaster before the guests’ eyes, attracting regular customers from all over the city for decades.

Homemade down to the Last Crumb

The roasting machine is the heart of the café, next to which sacks of raw coffee beans await. In the display cases of the counter are New York Cheesecake, Devil’s Food Cake, Lemon Meringue Tartes, Classic Cream Scones, and Raspberry Streusel Muffins, all baked daily in the in-house bakery. If you can’t decide, simply sample the cake selection with a cup of freshly roasted coffee.

Those who want to bake the American delicacies at home will find many recipes in Cynthia Barcomi’s now six baking books. On-site, you can enjoy the view of the hustle and bustle on Bergmannstraße or take your treats to go. Dogs are explicitly welcome and receive a fresh bowl of water.
