The Asparagus Buffet in Klaistow: Asparagus Dishes in All Variations

If you really want to get your money’s worth when eating asparagus in Berlin and Brandenburg, you shouldn’t miss the asparagus buffet in the farm restaurant. The asparagus buffet is available on Mondays, Fridays, and recently also on Saturdays and Sundays. The offer is remarkably versatile. For your meal, there’s Beelitz asparagus with schnitzel, ham, and scrambled eggs, Beelitz asparagus salads, asparagus tarte flambée, asparagus quiche, green asparagus wrapped in bacon, roasted asparagus, potato and asparagus gratin, as well as desserts made from Klaistow strawberries and asparagus crème brûlée. Sauce Hollandaise and browned butter are, of course, a must. What we particularly like: the asparagus truly comes to the table as fresh as you’d hope. Firm to the bite, aromatic, and not watery at all. That’s by no means a given everywhere. Gratinéed asparagus, Klaistow pan-fried asparagus with feta cheese, and fried white and green asparagus with tomatoes and basil pesto are also on the buffet. All of this comes at an all-inclusive price: The buffet recently cost 33.70 euros per adult, with children paying less depending on their height.

A Family Farm with History in Beelitz

The Klaistow Asparagus and Adventure Farm near Potsdam and Berlin is a family business founded more than a quarter-century ago. In 1990, Jörg Buschmann and Ernst-August Winkelmann learned about the tradition of Beelitz asparagus during a town partnership between Glindow in Brandenburg and their hometown Rahden in North Rhine-Westphalia. Thus, in 1991, the first asparagus cultivation in Klaistow began on 11 hectares. Initially, there was only a small sales stand by the field. In 1995, the first hall was built. Today, it has become one of the largest addresses in the region. With 800 hectares of asparagus and around 100 sales stands in Berlin-Brandenburg, the farm is one of the largest asparagus growing operations in the Beelitz region. The owners are Antje and Ernst-August Winkelmann, who run the farm together. If you’ve always wanted to know how asparagus gets from the field to the plate, you can experience it firsthand here. Free farm tours are offered for this purpose, where you can follow the journey of the asparagus step by step. A trip to Klaistow is also worthwhile because of the nearby Beelitz Heilstätten (sanatoriums), where today a spectacular tree-top walk and time travel path winds its way.
