Asparagus dining in Berlin with history: The Prater Gaststätte in Prenzlauer Berg is home to the city's oldest beer garden and serves regional white asparagus from Spargelhof Kremmen during the season.

Asparagus from Spargelhof Kremmen: The seasonal offer

During the season, Prater Gaststätte offers classic, regional white asparagus from Spargelhof Kremmen. There are four variations for guests to choose from: The classic vegetarian option comes with boiled potatoes and breadcrumb butter. Those who prefer meat can choose between Black Forest ham, pan-fried char fillet, and a small Viennese veal schnitzel. If desired, the dish can be supplemented with Hollandaise sauce.

Not in the mood for the classic asparagus dish? Then the Berlin chicken fricassee made from corn-fed chicken with white asparagus, mushrooms, capers, and rice is recommended. Also on the menu as starters are a creamy asparagus soup and an asparagus salad made from white and green asparagus with egg and tarragon.

A Berlin Original since 1837

The Prater in the Prenzlauer Berg district is Berlin’s oldest beer garden. It was originally founded as a beer tap in 1837. Through the Kalbo family, who established and expanded the establishment in 1852, the Prater developed into a popular leisure and entertainment venue, also hosting theatre and variety shows.

The Prater Gaststätte with 150 seats, right next to the Prater Garten, is open all year round. Free of kitsch, in a classic restaurant ambiance of past centuries, the wooden furniture ensures that the Prater Gaststätte is cozy and inviting despite the size of the dining area.

The Prater is also the second venue for the Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, which gives the place a cultural dimension that hardly any other restaurant in Berlin can boast. If you plan an evening stroll after your asparagus dinner, you’re in good hands: the lively Kastanienallee and the Kulturbrauerei are within walking distance and make the visit a beautiful Prenzlauer Berg evening.
