At Bundesbüdchen in Berlin-Mitte, classic, down-to-earth German cuisine meets cosmopolitan flair and modern sophistication. This charming restaurant is a homage to the legendary Bonn cult kiosk and turns asparagus dining in Berlin into an elegant seasonal affair.

Asparagus Dining at Bundesbüdchen: The Asparagus Festival with Beelitz Asparagus

Those who want to eat asparagus in Berlin will find one of the most atmospheric addresses of the season at Bundesbüdchen starting May 1st. The restaurant is calling for an asparagus festival and is featuring Beelitz asparagus on the menu: For decades, Beelitz has been known as Germany’s most famous asparagus region.

Initially, there are two starters to choose from, including an asparagus salad with green and white asparagus and spring herbs, and an asparagus cream soup with sourdough croutons and spring herbs. For us, the soup is a real opening favorite. For the main course, Beelitz asparagus is served classically with Sauce Hollandaise and parsley potatoes, but can be wonderfully customized. If desired, it can be supplemented with Bozener sauce, truffle ham, Parma ham, marinated char, a Wiener Schnitzel style from Duroc pork, or fillet of golden trout. This ensures there’s something for every preference. The meal concludes with asparagus ice cream with yuzu granita – a dessert not easily found in Berlin.

Bundesbüdchen: History, Concept, and Location in Mitte

Bundesbüdchen Berlin opened on June 25, 2025, immediately causing a stir. Owner Jochen Thoss is a big fan of the original kiosk in the former capital Bonn and wanted to design his restaurant as authentically as possible. From the outside, it looks like a miniature version of the Bonn original: an oval pavilion combining kiosk charm with modern pop art. Inside, 70s nostalgia meets stylish design.

Head chef Johann Maier, a native of Passau, came to Berlin in 2015 after his time in Vienna at Mraz & Sohn and has since proven his skills at renowned places like Cordobar and Oh, Panama. With experience in international Michelin-starred kitchens, he combines classic techniques with modern ideas. His philosophy: less is more, as long as taste, product, and craftsmanship are central. Bundesbüdchen is also open for lunch, and the Federal Ministry of Economics building is directly opposite, giving the place its unique Berlin energy. If you want to take a stroll after your asparagus meal: Invalidenpark and Charité are just a few minutes’ walk away.
