Spielwiese: Board Game Library with Café in Friedrichshain

Spielwiese in the Simon-Dach-Kiez was Berlin’s first board game library with its own café and shop. Since 2006, everything here revolves around gaming. Anyone who has decided to put away their phone more often in the evenings and spend time with friends will find a large selection of new and used board games here, which is regularly supplemented with new releases.

Sustainability has played an important role since its founding. This is evident in the principle of borrowing instead of buying, but also in the food and drinks, which preferably come from organic suppliers and local initiatives.

Borrow, Try, Return

Games are played directly in the café, and games can be exchanged as often as desired during the visit. On Mondays, the entire evening costs 5 Euros per person; on Fridays and Saturdays, it’s 4 Euros for the first hour and 2 Euros for each additional hour. Many games can also be borrowed for home, including titles rarely found in regular toy stores.

On Mondays, open game nights take place, where people who didn’t know each other often sit down at a table together. Additionally, there are tournaments like the Berlin Board Game Championships, and the rooms can be rented for private game parties.
