I walked into my first class with two left feet and danced my way back out. At the La Mambita they taught me the basic steps, and at the Havanna I got to try them out. For this list I spun my way through Berlin's salsa scene. These ten places really get everyone moving.
With roots dating back to 1993, La Mambita at Kolonnenstraße 29 is Berlin's salsa dance school with the longest tradition, bringing LA-style to the city in 1999. In Schöneberg, Salsa LA, NY, and Cubana are offered as drop-in classes in a 150-square-meter hall. For salsa classes in Berlin, this means: no registration needed, just drop by for a trial lesson for 10 Euros.
Since 2018, La Candela Salsa has specialized in Salsa Cubana, teaching right next to Hamburger Bahnhof, five minutes from Hauptbahnhof. The salsa course in Berlin-Mitte progresses through five levels with over 100 hours, covering Timba, Son, and Rueda, with instruction in English.
