Iconic Scene Clubs and Pubs

Süss war gestern on Wühlischstraße has been a fixture in the Boxhagener Kiez for over fifteen years. Upstairs, a bar with sixties furniture, board games, and conversational volume; downstairs, a basement floor with DJs playing electro, house, and indie. As a cult scene pub with club operations, the venue covers both halves of a Friedrichshain evening.

One enters Mein Haus am See at Rosenthaler Platz through a large window, stepping into a two-story space with a staircase landscape, sixties-style furniture, and free admission. It's a café in the afternoon, a bar with DJs in the evening, and in the basement, you'll find the Cosmic Kaspar club. Among Berlin's iconic scene clubs, this is the spot that lasts from coffee to the last round.

Vettern Bar took over the premises of the former Bar Mama on Hobrechtstraße in 2023 and has since become one of the most visited trendy pubs in Neukölln's Reuterkiez. Exposed concrete and flea market furniture, unpasteurized Svijany on tap from 3.60 euros, space for around one hundred guests. Among Berlin's iconic trendy pubs, it represents the Neukölln counterpart to the club mile.

Red light, seventies armchairs and a round sofa with a view of the entire bar: Zu mir oder zu Dir in Lychener Straße is one of the smallest trendy bars in Helmholtzkiez and officially registered as a smoking bar. Between Nordbahnhof and the Natural History Museum lies 'Wilder als erwartet' (Wilder than expected), a bar with an outdoor area featuring wooden tables, lanterns, and candles, and a dark interior filled with red velvet armchairs and disco balls. Paule's Metal Eck on Krossener Straße is the metal pub of the Simon-Dach-Kiez: red-black dim light, skulls up to the ceiling, around ten draft beers, and cash payment. Billiards, foosball, and darts are in the back. Among Berlin's cult scene pubs, Metal Eck is the meeting point where the Berlin metal scene actually gathers.

The bar Zum schmutzigen Hobby is located in a former fire station on the RAW grounds, where founder Nina Queer moved her bar, which started in Prenzlauer Berg in 2005, in early 2011. Drag shows, bingo with the Wodkasisters, and nineties parties define the program. As a cult scene club of the queer city, it is the top address in Friedrichshain.

Behind an inconspicuous entrance on Novalisstraße lies the Reingold Bar, opened in 2007 and now managed by Raymund Peters, who started here as head bartender. Seventeen meters of mahogany counter, golden walls, and a shielded private club for up to fifty guests. Among Berlin's iconic scene bars, it stands for the sophisticated counterpart to a pub.

The Clash is located in the backyard of the self-managed Mehringhof, continuing since 2004 what began in the eighties as the collective pub Spectrum. Punk, Ska, and Reggae on stage, concert tickets from 17 Euros in advance, plus a beer garden and lunch. Among Berlin's iconic scene pubs, The Clash is the one with the clearest political statement.

Directly below the TV Tower, Knutschfleck combines a variety stage, experience restaurant, and cocktail bar in one venue. The menu features East German classics like Solyanka and Königsberger Klopse for 18.90 Euros, plus over 150 drinks starting from 12.90 Euros. Among Berlin's iconic scene addresses, Knutschfleck is the loudest and most vibrant.
