Botanischer Garten Berlin

The Berlin Botanical Garden stretches over 43 hectares between Dahlem and Lichterfelde and houses around 20,000 plant species. The complex includes fifteen display greenhouses, among them the Great Tropical House with giant bamboo and palms. To combat a boring Sunday, the order helps: first the outdoor area, then the tropics, and both in any weather.
Berlin Botanical Garden: 43 Hectares between Dahlem and Lichterfelde
The Berlin Botanical Garden is located in the southwest of the city, bordered by the villa streets of Dahlem and the Lichterfelde district. The outdoor area covers 43 hectares, making it one of the largest facilities of its kind worldwide. Around 20,000 plant species grow here. The arboretum collects trees and shrubs from the temperate Northern Hemisphere, while the phytogeographical department recreates entire landscapes, from the Alpinum to the steppe and the North German heath. In between are the Italian Garden, a rose garden, and the Scent and Touch Garden, specially designed for blind and visually impaired guests. The grounds are so expansive that visitors can spread out even on a busy Sunday, and almost every path offers a quiet corner.
The Greenhouses of the Botanical Garden Make Sundays Weatherproof
Fifteen display greenhouses are part of the complex and are included in the admission fee. The Great Tropical House is one of the largest cantilevered glasshouses in the world and maintains a humid warmth year-round, where giant bamboo, lianas, and palms grow. Adjacent are the Mediterranean House, the collections of cacti and succulents, and the houses for orchids and ferns. Signs along the paths explain the individual species, making the collection accessible even without a guided tour. Admission costs 10 Euros, reduced 5 Euros. For a grey Sunday, this means the plan holds even if continuous rain sets in outside.
